The Puranas relate that the two Aswini Kumaras were born of mother Sanga and father Ravi. The mother held the solar semen in her nostrils, for otherwise, she could not hold it, it is so strong. They are the twins of Sanga and therefore this Nakshatra is supposed to produce twins, Mars in this Constellation – especially if the Lagna is in Aquarius and Mars in the house of brother (3rd or 11th House) indicates twin brother and sister for the native. Or if Sun, Jupiter or Father Karaka or lord of the Bhava/ house signifying father or son in a similar way is in this Nakshatra then the father or any of the uncles or any of the children may be one of the twins.

Remedy

Ashwani Kumar is the Lord of the Ashwini Nakshatra. To appease him, one should take the soil from both banks of a river or waterhole and construct an imaginative idol. Make seven swastikas out of wheat flour. Worship this idol with white sandalwood, white flowers, five flags made of five colours, five lamps and camphor. Pray to Lord Ashwini and sacrifice jaggery and sesame seeds. Mix barley, butter and the root of chichri (tamarind tree) in the sacrificial mixture and recite the following mantra 108 times. –

ॐ अश्विना तेजसा चक्षुः प्राणेन सरस्वती वीर्यम।

वाचेन्द्रो बलेनेन्द्राय दधुः इन्द्रियम ॐ अश्विनी कुमाराभ्यां नमः।।
